Born in Trinidad, Hazel Scott (1920-1981) moved to New York City at age four. As a child, Scott was a musical prodigy, and she grew up to become a dynamic and bold perfomrer who appeared on film, radio, and Broadway. In 1950, she became the first black person to host her own TV show, The Hazel Show, which showcased her range as a performer and musician.
