By registering using just her initials, Katherine Switzer (b. 1947) ran the Boston Marathon as a numbered entry in 1967, when it did not allow women. She was discovered at mile 5 by an angry official who physicall tried to stop her, but she evaded the attack and made it to the finish line. It wasn't until 1972 that women where officially allowed to enter.
